After your application is approved, you can expect to begin your VATSIM air traffic control training at Memphis Air Traffic Control Center (ZME). Training at ZME is on the sweatbox simulator, and also live on the scope. We expect you to take the initiative to find an instructor or mentor and progress through training at your own pace. You may work with any available instructor or mentor. You can sign up for training slots as they become available, or contact an instructor on TeamSpeak or by e-mail. Our instructors enjoy working with new students, so don't be bashful - let them know you're ready to start your training!

Your training will start with Clearance Delivery and Ground. After you have completed this short training program you will be promoted from OBS (Observer) to S1 (Student-1). After receiving your S1 you can start training on Tower, and after completion of that training you will be promoted to S2. The next step is Approach and Departure training, after which you will be promoted to S3. The final step is training for enroute control; graduates are promoted to C1 (Center Controller). Along the way there are written and practical exams but you will have fun too.

About the ZME Training Center

A long time ago it was common for each ARTCC to have its own training materials and exams. This is no longer the case because we utilize the VATUSA Training site, and train to VATUSA standards. However you can still access our training center to see how we used to do things, and you can take the practice exams to get an idea of the kind of questions you might encounter. Note that exams taken through our training center are NOT required and you will not be evaluated at ZME based on any training or exam scores obtained there. You can access our training center here for our training center (username: ZMEGuest, password: guest).
